Is it safe to buy IG followers?

Mostly, provided you avoid a few mistakes, though zero risk isn’t on offer from anyone. Below: Instagram’s position, the typical outcome, and five behaviours that make trouble far likelier.

Checked and updated 2 November 2026

A modest order, no password, paced over hours: the normal result is a slow loss of a few followers in later weeks. Action against the account itself is rare and usually follows risky behaviour: handing over a login, huge sudden jumps, or stacking orders from several sellers.

Instagram’s own rulebook

Instagram’s Terms and Community Guidelines tell users not to inflate follows, likes or other activity artificially, and not to use third-party services that do it for them. That is the honest starting point: buying followers goes against the platform’s rules. Instagram doesn’t publish a fixed penalty for it. In practice it acts against the fake accounts rather than the people they follow, removing them in periodic sweeps.

The typical real-world outcome

For most buyers, the visible effect is a slow trickle of lost followers in the weeks after delivery as Instagram clears accounts it distrusts. Losing a few per cent is routine. That is why decent sellers offer a refill window afterwards; ours lasts 30 days.

What rarely happens, for modest paced orders without a password, is anything worse. Accounts that run into real trouble tend to have done several risky things at once.

The habits that raise the risk

  • Handing over your login. Tools that sign in to “grow” you behave as you, follow and unfollow at speed, and are the single most common route to locked accounts. No follower shop needs your login.
  • Huge jumps. 20,000 followers on a 300-follower profile in an afternoon is the kind of pattern automated checks look for.
  • Stacking sellers. Several orders from different shops in the same week multiply everything above.
  • Engagement pods and follow-for-follow apps. These sit in the same rule area and are often more aggressive.
  • Repeated orders on a brand-new account. New accounts are watched more closely.

The UK angle: is it legal?

For an individual, buying followers for your own account is not against UK law. It becomes a legal question when the number is used to mislead people commercially. Both the ASA and the CMA regard fake engagement aimed at fooling consumers or brands as a problem, and the CMA has pressed platforms, Instagram included, to clamp down on the trade in fake reviews. If you are a business or an influencer, the safe line is simple: never present a bought number as real customers or a real audience. Our UK #ad rules guide explains why.

Five habits that keep risk small

  1. Keep your login to yourself. Followers need only a public username.
  2. Stay in proportion. Choose a size that resembles a strong month rather than a new identity. Our money pages suggest sizes for each stage.
  3. Choose paced delivery. Spread over hours or days, not dumped in minutes.
  4. Buy from one place, occasionally. One modest order beats five small ones from five sellers.
  5. Keep posting normally. An active profile with real posts looks like what it is: an account that grows.

Our promises, and their limits

Our promises: no password request ever, that delivery is paced, that you pay a fixed price in pounds, and free replacement of losses inside 30 days. We can’t promise Instagram will never remove a follower or take action on an account, because we don’t control Instagram, and anyone who promises that is guessing.

Asked often

Things buyers check first

Could Instagram ban me for it?
It has the power to, but after a modest, paced, password-free order the typical result is a few lost followers rather than a ban.
Does Instagram know when followers are bought?
It catches and deletes plenty of fake profiles, hence the drops. It doesn’t publish who bought what.
Could a pack get me shadowbanned?
There is no good evidence that a modest paced order on its own causes reduced reach. Aggressive automation and spammy behaviour are more often to blame.
Is it against UK law to buy IG followers?
Not for a private individual. Passing bought numbers off to customers or brands can breach UK advertising and consumer rules.
