How TikTok followers differ from Instagram followers
On Instagram your follower count does a lot of the work: it shapes first impressions and, to a degree, who sees your posts. TikTok is built differently. The For You feed shows videos to strangers based on how people react to them, often regardless of how many followers the creator has. A video from an account with 40 followers can reach half a million people.
